Virtual Patient AI: Artificial Intelligence for digital dentistry

Introduction: Virtual Patient AI embodies a cutting-edge, open-source platform that functions as an artificial intelligence-powered dental assistant, fully compliant with Medical Device Regulation (MDR) guidelines. It augments clinical decision-making while preserving practitioner autonomy and patient privacy. We offer findings on the utilization of telemedicine for treatment planning consultations and remote post-operative care monitoring as AI technological benchmark..

The Virtual Patient AI System comprises a suite of integrated technologies designed to deliver comprehensive healthcare solutions. Central to this system is the Virtual Patient BRAIN integrating the patients medical history, powered by the on-premises MISTRAL LLM model, ensuring enhanced control and security. Clinical guidelines are seamlessly incorporated through Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) via locally-hosted MedlibreGPT, our specialized adaptation of PrivateGPT. Online patient consultations are facilitated by AI-Twin Chatbots, which accurately emulate healthcare practitioners‘ expertise.

Results: A comparative analysis for 1000 teleconsultations was conducted between MedlibreGPT and OpenAI’s ChatGPT language model, demonstrating MedlibreGPT’s superior performance in dental applications. The POSTOP project tracks post-surgical adverse events for seven days via smartphone, exhibiting exceptional accuracy in identifying complications following operative procedures. The HKP project pioneers an innovative AI-assisted dental implant funnel, offering personalized online treatment plans tailored to individual patient preferences. This groundbreaking approach transforms the dental implant consultation experience, allowing patients to obtain a comprehensive treatment plan before their initial in-office appointment.

Conclusions: Virtual Patient Al enhances patient care through personalized treatment approaches and monitoring systems. Complete findings will be presented at the 2nd International Conference of Innovative Technologies in Dentistry (Dentistry 4.0) in Vienna.
